Join us for a lively night blending Monaghan tunes with Finnish folk vibes in one epic double bill!
Featuring Pádraig McGovern & Sabina McCague’s The Starry Lane to Monaghan, followed by Folk from Finland with Petra Käppi & Olli Sippola.
Two countries. Two musical traditions. One very special evening at Tradoodle.
Join us at the Market House for a double bill that journeys between the folk traditions of Finland and Ireland, bringing together four exceptional musicians for an evening of tunes, stories, culture and connection.
We begin in Finland with Petra Käppi and Olli Sippola. Drawing on Finland’s rich folk traditions, Petra and Olli bring songs, stories, fiddle music, traditional instruments and a wonderfully playful spirit to Monaghan. Expect beautiful music, glimpses into Finnish culture and language, and plenty of opportunities for children and grown-ups to listen, discover and join in along the way.
Then we travel home to Monaghan with Pádraig McGovern and Sabina McCague and The Starry Lane to Monaghan. Their newly released duet album brings together music gathered across a lifetime – tunes learned in sessions, discovered on treasured recordings and in archival collections, alongside music composed within their own home. Sabina, a highly regarded Monaghan multi-instrumentalist, and Pádraig, one of Ireland’s foremost uilleann pipers, share a deeply personal collection shaped by the people, places and musical encounters that have accompanied them through their lives together.
From Finnish fiddle music and songs from another northern landscape to uilleann pipes and Irish traditional tunes, this is an evening celebrating both the distinctiveness of our musical traditions and the connections that music creates between people and places.
Come travel from Finland to Monaghan – no passport required.
Folk from Finland is funded by the Culture Programme for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
